STATEMENT: Mayor Garcetti on LADWP Approval of Water Conservation Measures

The LADWP Board of Commissioners today voted to approve a set of water conservation measures strengthening the City's ability to penalize and combat excessive water use. Mayor Eric Garcetti issued the following statement in response to the Board decision:

"Millions of Angelenos have answered the call to address our historic drought, taking steps to Save the Drop and conserve -- from replacing thirsty lawns to installing rain barrels and cisterns. Their efforts have cut water usage by 19 percent in the last 18 months, and yet a few in our City continue to use more than their share. That has to stop. That's why last year I joined Councilmember Paul Koretz and the City Council in calling for a more aggressive approach to water conservation. The program approved today gives us stronger tools to fight excessive water use, and enables us to help Angelenos find new ways to conserve in their own homes. I applaud the LADWP Board of Commissioners, and I look forward to seeing this program move forward." - Mayor Eric Garcetti
