STATEMENT: Mayor Garcetti on Governor Newsom’s budget proposal
January 10, 2019
“Budgets are statements of our values, and Governor Newsom's proposal makes clear that we can only live up to our ideals of equity and opportunity if we end homelessness in our communities, expand affordable housing in our neighborhoods, and further invest in the education of our young people and the health of our families, including our immigrant brothers and sisters.
“Our state’s mayors made the effort to tackle the humanitarian crisis on our streets a top priority in Sacramento last year, and I applaud the Governor for stepping up and proposing nearly $2 billion to amplify and grow our work to build more housing units, stand up emergency shelters, and deliver services to Californians experiencing homelessness. He and our legislators will be strong partners as we continue this fight.” — Mayor Eric Garcetti
