Mayor Garcetti accepts friendly WNBA Finals wager with Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges

LOS ANGELES — Mayor Eric Garcetti has accepted a friendly wager with Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges over the outcome of the WNBA Finals series between the Los Angeles Sparks and Minnesota Lynx.

The wager celebrates the accomplishments of distinguished women authors from both cities. If the Sparks win, Mayor Hodges will send copies of books by some of Minneapolis’ most celebrated women authors to Mayor Garcetti for donation to the Downtown Women’s Center. If the Lynx win, Mayor Garcetti will send books by L.A. authors — such as Nina Revoyr and Janet Fitch — to Minneapolis.

“I gladly accepted Mayor Hodges’ wager, because I have no doubt that our Sparks will bring the WNBA Championship back to L.A.,” said Mayor Garcetti. “I’m also proud to join Mayor Hodges in highlighting incredible work by some of America’s most talented writers.”

The Sparks and Lynx are currently tied at two games apiece in the best-of-five series, and will square off tonight for the title.
