Tax Prep Made Easy

The 2021 tax-filing season is here, and Los Angeles is excited to launch its fifth year of the Free Tax Prep LA program at FamilySource Centers and other locations across the city.

The idea is simple: every Angeleno deserves the chance to access any tax credits available to working families, even if you can’t afford to hire an accountant. So, we have experts and volunteers ready to offer free tax help to individuals and households who make less than $57,000 a year and qualify for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit. Your family may be able to receive up to $10,000 cashback in combined state and federal tax credits — but only if you claim EITC.

This year, for the first time, Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) immigrant filers will be eligible for California’s Earned Income Tax Credit and the Young Child Tax Credit. ITIN filers are only eligible for the CalEITC state credit and Young Child Tax Credit, totaling up to $4,000.

For a list of locations and hours, visit FreeTaxPrepLA.com. Drop-off services require appointments. Assistance is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Persian, Armenian, and Korean.

Supportive resources provided at the City's FamilySource Centers during COVID-19 include online tutoring, hygiene kits, food banks, tenant/low-income housing support, CalFresh assistance, and more. Contact a FamilySource Center to see if you qualify. Visit FreeTaxPrepLA.com to find a location near you!
